SUMMARY:ART EXHIBIT – “REVOLTING” ARTWORKS
DESCRIPTION:“Revolting” Artworks Inspired by the 1919 General Strike: Frost Shiled Kerfuffle\nInspired by the events surrounding the 1919 strike, “REVOLTING!” is a unique exhibition showcasing original artworks by the Frost Shield Kerfuffle Collective. These artists present works that re-imagine iconic images associated with the strike, along with explorations into its repercussions and the continuum of the class struggle. Artistic approaches to this subject matter range from a tongue-in-cheek parody of classic moments to somber reflections on some of the tragic characters and circumstances that make up this historical event. The 1919 Winnipeg General Strike had a significant influence on the social fabric and political history of Winnipeg, Manitoba, and Canada. It set a precedent (that some would argue hasn’t been sufficiently commemorated) for progressive social change even though the strike didn’t achieve the desired outcomes for the workers and organizers involved.\nThe roots of the uprising can be traced back to tensions caused by the exploitation and unsafe working conditions experienced by workers who wanted a better life for themselves and their families. They felt compelled to protest as there was no other recourse available to ameliorate these situations and mitigate the disparity between labor and management. The resulting events, and the way they are characterized today, are seen as the starting point that instigated and continues to shape social justice movements and a fight for equality that still rages on. The battles are both personal and political, humbling and inspiring\nEntrance to the Peace Garden is by day pass ( https://peacegarden.com/discover/membership/#passes ) or membership.\nLocated in the Conservatory building\n Hours:\nMay 1-27: 10am-4pm daily\nStarting May 28: 10am-6pm daily\n
