SUMMARY:9/11 Memorial Event
DESCRIPTION:The InThe International Peace Garden will hold its annual9/11 Memorial Event on Thursday, September 11 at 11 a.m. at the 9/11 Memorial Site. The event is free to the public and regular gate admission rates resume at noon. Attendees are encouraged to arrive by 10:30 am. Light refreshments will be available to the public after the event. The cafe and gift shop will also be open. \nThe ceremony will be held at the 9/11 Memorial Site which was established in 2002, through the work of the IPG board, the North Dakota and Manitoba governments and Rotary clubs in both countries. In the event of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Atrium of the Conservatory. \nThe event will begin at 10:50 am with the Marching of the Flags by the Honour Guard and 26th Military Pipers from Brandon in a procession from the Peace Chapel to the 9/11 Memorial. The ceremony will be opened at 11 a.m. by MC Dwight MacAulay with a welcome from Garden CEO Tim Chapman, followed by the Canadian and US anthems performed by the Bottineau School Choir under the direction of Jaque Marum.\nSpeakers will include diplomats from the US Consulate in Winnipeg and the Canadian Consulate in Minneapolis, and fire chiefs from Minot and Brandon. The speakers will then lay wreaths, followed by a moment of silence, a closing prayer, and closing remarks by MacAulay.\n“This is a day of remembrance and a reminder of the importance of the foundational values of the Garden,” Chapman said. “When we come together across borders to honor those values, we help ensure that peace is not just an aspirational idea, but a long-standing reality and an example to the world of friendship between nations.”\n
