- [9/11 Memorial Event](https://peacegarden.com/9-11-memorial-event/): The International Peace Garden will hold a 9/11 Memorial Event on Sunday, Sept. 11 at 11 a.m.  The event is free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to arrive by 10:30 a.m. and take seats by 10:45 a.m. for the 11 a.m. ceremony. Ceremony will be held in the Conservatory lobby in case of inclement weather. A buffet lunch will follow the ceremony in the Conservatory/Café for $15.00.

- [History of the Cairn](https://peacegarden.com/history-of-the-cairn/): The stone cairn marking the US-Canada border was the first structure built in the International Peace Garden. Native stones were gathered from both sides of the border to build the cairn, which was dedicated on July 14, 1932. Over 50,000 people attended the dedication, which was a remarkable turnout considering the rough roads of the era. The size of the crowd showed the enthusiasm for both the Garden itself and for the idea of a monument to long-lasting peace and friendship between nations.

- [IPG Airport](https://peacegarden.com/ipg-airport/): Celebrate the flying season by choosing a very unique airport and destination for your next flight. The Dunseith/International Peace Garden runway is entirely within the USA but has a taxi-way that crosses the border to a small parking apron on the Canadian side. Because you park on Canadian soil you don’t have to file any cross-border documentation. You fly into this airport as though it was any small Canadian airport. Call UNICOM 122.8 inbound and advise Customs you will be parking on the Canadian apron. Proceed directly to Canada customs before entering the Garden. When returning to your aircraft you must stop at Canadian customs and advise of any purchases made before proceeding to the airport. Non-Canadians will require a passport and Canadians either a passport or a driver’s license with a birth certificate, or a Secure Certificate of Indian Status. Just as when driving to the Peace Garden, you are assumed to have entered the US when you are in the Garden. Please note that as of the writing of this article, vaccinated Canadians do not have to isolate when returning to Canada but the Canada ArriveCan app is still required to be completed for presentation to customs with your passport or other document.

Developing a plan to express that theme through colorful plantings is a massive undertaking that starts the previous summer and continues into fall. The design staff gets input from the administration and the seasonal staff to develop the concept for the following year. In late summer of 2021, the theme of celebrating the Garden’s 90th anniversary was chosen for the 2022 season.

He proposed the idea to the National Association of Gardeners, which approved the plan, and a site selection committee started the search for a location.

Experienced and enthusiastic Instructors from North Dakota and Manitoba will teach Yoga every Saturday and Sunday morning at 9 am, with additional Sound Bath classes added into the event schedule. Classes are $15 per person. Gate admission is additional. Yoga mats will be available for use. Classes will be held outdoors, with an alternative indoor location in case of inclement weather.

This dreamer worked with the National Association of Gardeners and in 1932, his grand concept – a garden spanning the border of two countries and two governments -- opened to the public. This summer we will celebrate the 90th anniversary of Dr. Moore’s vision – and this unique garden grounded in peace.

- [Cross Country Skiing](https://peacegarden.com/project/cross-country-skiing/): During the winter season, trails will be groomed when there is enough snow to be packed. Public restrooms are available at the terrace building at the end of the parking lot nearest to the trails.
- [Formal Gardens](https://peacegarden.com/project/formal-gardens/): With more than 80,000 flowering annuals and perennials, the formal garden is home to a variety of installations including a pollinator garden, a kitchen garden growing fresh produce used in our café, and an All-American Selection Garden that serves as just one of three testing sites for new seeds. Terraces, fountains and sculptures delight visitors and make our Formal Gardens a favorite destination. Don’t miss the iconic floral clock, sunken garden and floral flags.
- [The Conservatory & Interpretive Center](https://peacegarden.com/project/the-conservatory-interpretive-center/): The Don Vitko Cacti and Succulents Collection is open!  Enjoy the Collection Monday - Friday, 10 AM to 4 PM, and Saturday - Sunday, 11AM - 4PM. The Gift Shop will be open Friday - Sunday 11AM - 4PM October 2025 - April 2026.
- [Sunken Garden](https://peacegarden.com/project/sunken-garden/): The Sunken Garden, located in the Formal Garden, displays a focal octagonal pond with two adjoining reflecting pools. The North Dakota Homemakers and the Manitoba Women’s Institute support the two reflecting pools. The three have active water features. Octagonal walkways and plantings of trees, shrubs and flowers repeatedly encompass the pond. On the north and south walkways, two stone garden houses, financed by the North Dakota and U.S. National Homemakers’ Clubs, marks the Avenues of America and Canada.
- [The Floral Clock](https://peacegarden.com/project/the-floral-clock/): The large clock received from the Bulova Watch Company in 1966 was a duplicate of the famous Bulova Floral Clock at Berne, Switzerland. It was replaced the summer of 2005 with a new clock from St. Louis, Missouri. The Floral Clock, 18 feet in diameter, is a popular attraction at the International Peace Garden, and displays a unique floral design each year. The number of plants on the clock can range from 2,000 to 5,000, depending on the type of plant and design on the face of the clock.Typically the first week in June, 80,000 flowers are planted at the Peace Garden, and best viewed full bloom from mid-July through August. However, the park has its own distinctive beauty all year around.
- [Children’s Nature Play Area](https://peacegarden.com/project/childrens-nature-play-area/): Children of all ages are encouraged to have a hands-on experience in the new Children’s Nature Play Area. The play area features a theme of animal's native to the Turtle Mountains, where the Peace Garden is located. Components include climbing nets in the turtle area; bridges, dams and lodges in the beaver zone; and a wolf-themed gathering circle with a granite boulder fire ring at its center. Local indigenous communities will develop content that incorporates traditional teachings and native storytelling into each of the park’s play areas.
- [Canoeing and Kayaking](https://peacegarden.com/project/canoe-kayaking/): We also have lakes; and while we don’t have any formal boat launch sites there are any number of access points to our lakes available to canoeists and kayak enthusiasts. And if you want a fishing experience, there are several good lakes within the provincial and state parks systems bordering the International Peace Garden.

Stop for a break from hiking or pedaling and one of our many scenic picnic areas, overlooking picturesque lakes and the natural beauty of the turtle mountain region.

- [9/11 Memorial](https://peacegarden.com/project/9-11-memorial/): In 2010, Rotary International, North American Firefighters Union and Manitoba Infrastructure donated the 9/11 Memorial that includes iron remnants from the collapsed towers at the World Trade Center. Each year the International Peace Garden hosts a 9/11 Memorial Service that is open to all - the service begins at 11AM and we ask that eveyone be at the site by 10:45AM.
- [Peace Chapel](https://peacegarden.com/project/peace-chapel/): This is a special place for reflection and is thought-provoking year-round. If you would like to see it during winter, please reach out to us at assistant@peacegarden.com with at least two-day's notice to arrange for snow-removal if access is blocked.
- [Dedication Cairn](https://peacegarden.com/project/dedication-cairn/): The cairn which still stands at the gate to the International Peace Garden was dedicated on July 14, 1932 – before the Nazi regime came to power in Germany. Hope prevailed. Visitors can still experience this sense of hope and peace at the International Peace Garden.
- [Gift Shop](https://peacegarden.com/project/gift-shop/): The Gift Shop is open Friday - Sunday from 11 am - 4 pm from October 2025 - April 2026. Please contact giftshop@peacegarden.com for additional information. 
- [Carillon Bell Tower](https://peacegarden.com/project/carillon-bell-tower/): Donated by The Central United Church of Brandon, MB, the bells sound out the Westminster chimes on the quarter and mark the time of day. Only four sets of bells like these exist in the world.
- [Historic Lodge](https://peacegarden.com/project/historic-lodge/): Built in 1937 by the Civilian Conservation Corps, the oldest building in the International Peace Garden is a magnificent display of natural architecture and a reflection of human tenacity in hard times.

- [Old Time Fiddle Worshop](https://peacegarden.com/events/old-time-fiddle-worshop/): International Music Camp presents the thirtieth annual FIDDLE, GUITAR, BASS, and 5-STRING BANJO WORKSHOPS June 4 and 5, 2026.  The Fiddle Workshop will offer instruction in Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced, Métis, Canadian Old-Time, and Bluegrass Fiddle styles.  The Guitar/Banjo Workshop will focus on flat-picking and finger-picking styles.  Both styles are used in folk and bluegrass music.  The Bass Workshop will focus on finger picking accompaniment skills.  Participants will learn new techniques to accompany old-time fiddling.  The workshops will begin each day at 9:00 am Central Time and will conclude at 4:00 pm.  Break-out sessions will be offered again with topics such as mandolin, bluegrass, and more!

- [IMC – The 188th Army Band](https://peacegarden.com/events/imc-festival-of-the-arts-performance-the-188th-army-band-2/): The official mission of the 188th Army Band is to promote the Army and our national interests, enable commanders to shape the environment to accomplish their mission, and set the conditions that lead to trust and confidence in America’s Army and its readiness to conduct operations in peacetime, conflict, and war. The 188th Army Band is a traditional North Dakota National Guard unit; most members serve one weekend per month and two weeks per year. The band’s motto is “Pride In Performance”.
- [IMC– Ryan D’Aoust](https://peacegarden.com/events/mc-festival-of-the-arts-performance-ryan-daoust/): Ryan D’Aoust is an award winning fiddler from the Norway House Cree Nation in Northern Manitoba. Ryan learned to play fiddle through the Frontier School division’s Fiddling program offered in his school when he was in grade 6. His exceptional passion, talent, and commitment to his community soon led to his becoming a much sought after fiddler at a very young age. Ryan has played at countless square dancing and jigging contests throughout Manitoba.

Along with a delicious meal, all moms will leave with a special plant tied to this year's theme: All Things Pollinators. This year's plant for moms is the Butterfly Weed (Asclepias tuberosa). This species of milkweed is a host for Monarch butterflies!

We perform a mix of Folk, Americana, and Indie sounds across nine instruments from box drums to banjos. We thrive on bending genres and having fun while doing it. Our band is made up of 3 members with the occasional sibling, aunt, or cousin floating around.

At the age of seven, Mitchell began playing the guitar to accompany his grandfather and brother as they played Metis fiddle tunes. Makoons continues to be an active member of the Manitoba Metis community and writes songs that combine traditional Ojibway music and culture with modern influences.
- [Old Time Fiddle Workshop & Contest](https://peacegarden.com/events/old-time-fiddle-workshop-contest-3/): International Music Camp presents the twenty-ninth annual FIDDLE, GUITAR, BASS, and 5-STRING BANJO WORKSHOPS June 5 and 6, 2025.  The Fiddle Workshop will offer instruction in Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced, Métis, Canadian Old-Time, and Bluegrass Fiddle styles.  The Guitar/Banjo Workshop will focus on flat-picking and finger-picking styles.  The Bass Workshop will focus on finger picking accompaniment skills.  Participants will learn new techniques to accompany old-time fiddling.  The workshops will begin each day at 9:00 am Central Time and will conclude at 4:00 pm.  Break-out sessions will be offered again with topics such as mandolin, bluegrass, and more! Contest is June 7.

As part of the series, we are thrilled that we can offer 3 Sound Baths for you.  Experienced and enthusiastic Instructors from North Dakota and Manitoba will lead the Sound Baths at 6PM amongst the Don Vitko Cacti & Succulents Collection in the Conservatory. Classes are $15 per person. Gate admission is additional. Yoga mats will be available for use.

Experienced and enthusiastic Instructors from North Dakota and Manitoba will teach Yoga every Saturday and Sunday morning at 9 am, with additional Sound Bath classes added into the event schedule. Classes are $15 per person. Gate admission is additional. Yoga mats will be available for use. Classes will be held outdoors, with an alternative indoor location in case of inclement weather.
- [Origami Lotus Flower Workshop](https://peacegarden.com/events/origami-lotus-flower-workshop/): Join Vicky, as she leads us in creating a beautiful origami Lotus Flower.  Origami is the meditative art of paper folding. For many hundreds of years, people have delighted in the joy of folding ordinary pieces of paper into wonderful objects. The origami lotus flower is created by transforming six square pieces of paper with a few simple cuts, and one type of fold into a beautiful lotus. In nature, the lotus flower rises out of the mud, untainted and pristine. The lotus flower represents purity of heart and mind, spiritual growth and awakening.
- [Evie Andrus – IMC Festival of the Arts Performance](https://peacegarden.com/events/evie-andrus-imc-festival-of-the-arts-performance/): Evie Andrus has been a performer for more than 30 years starting with her family band, Family Ties. She has toured extensively around the South and Midwest as well as some select appearances overseas.  Evie is a graduate of the East TN State University Bluegrass, Old Time and County Music Program and is a current graduate student at University of Tennessee in Knoxville studying Musicology. Andrus’ work has been featured on HBO, American Ninja Warrior and in backing orchestras for Foreigner and Il Divo. Andrus also has worked as a performer at the Hatfield and McCoy Dinner Feud as well as Dollywood Amusement Park. She is a co-founder and current President of the East TN Bluegrass Association. Andrus released an album of original tunes in May 2022, Evie’s Great Adventure. Other recorded works include: Barefoot Sanctuary’s “Songs for My Father” and the self-titled Hance & Andrus. Recipient of the Mary Sue Chamber Music Scholarship and Robinson Piano Scholarship, Dr. Khaliapova won a number of international and local competitions in Europe and the United States, including the International Keyboard Odyssiad and Festival (Colorado), International Music Competition ‘Citta Di Barletta’ (Italy), International Competition ‘Music Without Limits’ (Lithuania), and International Competition ‘Art of the 21st Century’ (Ukraine).

Their repertoire, which ranges from Billy Joel to Bruno Mars, features complex (often original) musical arrangements performed without a single instrument. THOSE GUYS had the honour of opening for The Nylons during their Farewell Tour in 2016 and have released four albums, “That Album” (2012), “Live!” (2014), “This Christmas” (2015) and “At Home” (2020).

- [Akiktonz’a S’ni Art Exhibit](https://peacegarden.com/events/akiktonza-sni-art-exhibit/): Akiktonz’a S’ni utilizes beading, dreamcatcher technique, hide, and sinew to understand the intergenerational effects of the Residential Schools. Jessie Jannuska’s ancestry is mixed Dakota, Ojibway, and settler. She was raised in an environment affected by the intergenerational effects of Residential Schools. As an artist, she is interested in understanding how this trauma shapes relationships in her family. Akiktonz’a S’ni addresses the experience of poverty, addiction, and loss of Indigenous culture. Residential Schools were in operation in Canada for over one hundred years. Residential Schools have been operating in her family for her entire life.
