Many of our late season plants are in full bloom with only a few plants left to open their flowers. Some of my favorites this time of year are pink turtlehead and sedum (which will be in full bloom later this week, going into next week and beyond). Other late summer plants in bloom include Joe-Pye-Weed, echinacea, black-eyed Susan, obedient plant garden phlox, hydrangeas, false sunflower, and some of the later blooming varieties of hostas and daylilies. I will note that I’ve seen hordes of pollinators flocking to the flowers.

Last week (and today while taking pictures), I saw many monarch butterflies, viceroys (monarch mimics), and painted ladies. I’ve also seen a plethora of other pollinators such as bumblebees, solitary bees, flies, hoverflies, and wasps. Clearly, they feel fall fast approaching. On that note, I’ve also noticed the trees are beginning to change color. Here’s hoping for a colorful fall!
