About us

The International Peace Garden was founded in 1932 by a group of visionaries aiming to establish a place dedicated to the ideals of peace and friendship between nations. Located near the geographic center of North America, the International Peace Garden sits on the Manitoba/North Dakota border and commemorates the long-standing peace between the United States and Canada. Today, the Peace Garden grounds span more than 2,400 acres including forests, trails, lakes, manicured gardens, conservatories, campgrounds, and more.

Facilities Maintenance Lead

The Facilities Maintenance Lead will lead and execute the International Peace Garden facilities maintenance strategy in collaboration with the Administrative Office.  This position is full-time year-round.  The Lead will oversee the overall strategic maintenance strategy, budgets, create annual plans for facilities maintenance, develop and lead the facilities department hiring plan, employee interviews, orientation and training, ensure all codes are met in relation to our buildings, water treatment, air quality and sewage and provide project oversight to all infrastructure improvements at IPG.

Requirements:

  • Must have excellent leadership and verbal/written communication skills and previous experience in a leadership role.
  • Must have building and facility maintenance experience
  • Be able to stay motivated and focused on appropriate tasks, and direct others to do the same
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds.
  • Be willing and able to work long hours outside, including some weekends.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and current pesticide applicator license (or get on within the first year of employment)
  • Must be able to enter both Canada and the United States for equipment and material purchases.

Horticulture Team Leader

The Display Gardens offer an extensive collection of rotating annual flower displays and diversified perennial, shrub and tree plantings tailored to the local micro-climate and soil conditions found in the Turtle Mountain and is spread throughout a 20-acre space along the ND and MB border.  The main objective of this 9-month position (full-time March – October) is to execute the annual Display Gardens maintenance plan and development strategy in close coordination with the Display Gardens Horticulturist, and as approved by the CEO. Aside from the many duties/responsibilities shared with other horticultural staff on the Display Gardens and greater IPG Horticulture team, this position is specifically responsible for the daily mobilization and supervision of the Display Gardens seasonal gardening crew during peak season (May-September).

Administrative Assistant

Manages and administers all communications of the International Peace Garden Administration Office, including telephone, emails, camping and cabin reservations

Variety of other tasks as assigned

Preferred Qualifications

1. Previous experience in Administration

2. Strong knowledge in Office 365 Suite, social media platforms and network troubleshooting

3. Basic bookkeeping skills, preferably in both Canadian and US currencies.

4. Very proficient English skills – verbal, reading, comprehension and written

5. General office duties – minute taking, arranging meetings, travel arrangements, mail, etc.

6. Outgoing, friendly and willing to learn

 

Schedule:

  • 8 hour shift
  • Monday to Friday

 

Education:

  • High school or equivalent (Preferred)

Seasonal Gardening/Horticulture Crew

The International Peace Garden is looking for highly motivated, sun-worshipping plant enthusiasts to join our seasonal horticulture team! Whether you just like working in the outdoors or need to complete practicum/coop hours to graduate, the International Peace Garden can offer you an enriching on-the-job learning experience that is unique to the northern prairies.

Build expertise and skills by participating in the development and maintenance of an established formal public garden. Working alongside skilled horticulturists, you will be able to further your knowledge of planting annuals and perennials, weed identification and control, ornamental plant identification, edible plant cultivation, pruning, mulching, composting and irrigation methods to name just a few. You will also have the chance to interact with visitors from around the world!

Employment period: Employment ranges from mid-May through mid-September or any part thereof, depending on an applicant’s availability.

Grounds Crew Member

The Grounds Crew Member is to work under the Grounds Manager on basic lawn care and grounds tasks; to understand standard safety regulations and basic turf management; and is to operate under the International Peace Garden’s maintenance strategy to meet or exceed standards.

Gate House Positions

 

Gate House Attendant

As the initial contact for guests visiting the International Peace Garden, you will welcome and inform the guests as to what is happening that day.  You will answer any questions they may have, sell them a daily or annual pass and give them an overview of the Garden.

Facilities Maintenance Positions

 

Facilities Maintenance Crew 

We are looking for seasonal Facilities Maintenance employees. You will assist in the maintenance and upkeep of the buildings at the International Peace Garden. Your duties may include painting, minor electrical and plumbing work, repairs, cleaning buildings and ensuring the various buildings are ready for use by our guests.

Peace Garden Gift Shop Positions

 

The Peace Garden Gift Shop is located in the Conservatory and is open 7 days a week for the Summer season.  As a small Gift Shop, staff have the opportunity to learn the various aspects of running Gift Shop from great customer service, POS systems, merchandise ordering and stock and more.

 

Gift Shop Lead 

This position will serve as the Lead for the Gift Shop.  You will assist with the hiring of Gift Shop Staff, oversee the scheduling and stock, training and performance of the staff, ensure financial information and reporting is completed and that great customer service is provided.

 

Gift Shop Attendants

Gift Shop Attendants ensure the guests and customers of the Peace Garden Gift Shop experience great customer service.  You will operate our POS system, work in dual currencies, balance cash and credit/debit receipts and more.
