IPG Capital Campaign

For 90 years, the International Peace Garden has been a symbol of friendship and lasting peace between two nations. The Garden’s living embodiment of peace is based on the guiding principles of conservation, education, recreation, and arts and culture. This oasis of tranquility and beauty along the US-Canadian border was made possible by support from the governments of North Dakota and Manitoba as well as generous contributions from private organizations and individuals throughout the years. The IPG is currently undertaking a capital campaign to raise funds to expand the Conservatory and create a Children’s Nature Play Area. 

The Conservatory is home to one of the largest collection of cacti and succulents in the world. The collection is so large, there isn’t currently room to display all the specimens. An expansion project currently underway will increase the space to 18,000 sq. ft. and provide room for additional displays inside and out, as well as areas for events and art exhibits, making the Conservatory a year-round destination.

Children of all ages and abilities will be able to have a hands-on experience in the new Children’s Nature Play Area. The play area will feature a theme of animals native to the Turtle Mountains, where the Peace Garden is located. Play areas will be based on natural habitats to engage children in their surroundings and help them gain an understanding of the deep connections between animals, plants, and all the surrounding elements of their environments. Local Indigenous communities will develop content that incorporates traditional and Métis teachings and native storytelling into each of the park’s play areas. 

The Capital Campaign’s goal of $2.5 million US/3.1 million CAD includes:

• $1 million for an addition of 3,000 square feet of Conservatory space
• $500,000 for outdoor event patios
• $250,000 for a hydronic floor and in-bed heat
• $250,000 for triple-pane glass
• $250,000 for specialized lighting systems, and digital interpretive signs
• $250,000 for the Children’s Nature Play Area

Over its 90-year history, the IPG has added numerous features, amenities and attractions that have made it a must-see destination for visitors from across two nations and around the world. The expanded Conservatory and new Children’s Nature Play Area will enhance the experience of visitors of all ages and promote our message of peace through conservation, education, recreation, and arts and culture. Your contribution will help to ensure that the IPG remains relevant, accessible and sustainable for generations to come.

Funds raised from the purchase of a day pass, annual membership or lifetime membership are used to fund the cost of annual operations and helps support the various events and activities at the Peace Garden. Your generosity helps preserve this invaluable venue for generations.
