IMC Festival of the Arts Performance – The 188th Army Band
The official mission of the 188th Army Band is to promote the Army and our national interests, enable commanders to shape the environment to accomplish their mission, and set the conditions that lead to trust and confidence in America’s Army and its readiness to conduct operations in peacetime, conflict, and war. The 188th Army Band is a traditional North Dakota National Guard unit; most members serve one weekend per month and two weeks per year. The band’s motto is “Pride In Performance”.
The 188th Army Band regularly performs in North Dakota, where you’ll find them at military ceremonies, music education events, local parades, and community events. You may even catch them in downtown Medora or at the North Dakota State Fair! The band has traveled extensively to places including Australia, Jamaica, Germany, and across the United States. All members of the unit attend the Army School of Music which is located near Virginia Beach, Virginia.
The 188th Army Band currently has eight Music Performance Teams: Concert Band, Marching Band, Jazz Band, Woodwind Ensemble, Brass Ensemble, Saxophone Quartet, and two pop/variety bands. Beyond the unit’s musical capacity, the 188th Army Band served on State Active Duty to assist with the North Dakota floods of 2009 and 2011. They supported law enforcement during the Dakota Access Pipeline protest in 2016 and were a vital part of the COVID-19 Response Team in 2020. The Soldiers of the 188th Army Band are proud to serve whenever called.
