Crossroads Art Exhibit

In partnership with the North Dakota Museum of Art, the International Peace Garden will host a traveling art exhibition starting May 15th. The exhibit, Crossroads: An Exploration of Place and Identity, is curated from the museum’s permanent collection and features a diverse group of artists who explore the concepts of place, identity, and narrative through a variety of media.

Featured artists include Stuart Klipper, Rena Effendi, Christopher W. Benson, David Opdyke, Barton Lidice Beneš, and others. The works in this exhibition examine the complex relationships between landscapes, personal stories, and human experience, inviting reflection on the connection between place and identity. At the heart of Crossroads is the exploration of a sense of place, in both physical and metaphorical aspects.

Stuart Klipper’s photography captures stark and remote landscapes, highlighting the profound connection between the land and its people. Christopher W. Benson’s paintings delve into how the physical environment shapes our memories and sense of self. Rena Effendi’s photography documents communities in post-Soviet states, capturing the resilience and survival of individuals in the face of political and environmental challenges. Barton Lidice Beneš and David Opdyke, through their innovative works, challenge societal norms and explore themes of personal and national identity.
